10 Things You Can Do To Be Hurricane Safe!

The time has come again to start preparing for hurricane season. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina resulted in $105,840,000,000 worth of damages solely in the state of Florida. Hurricane Katrina is known as one of the most costly and deadly hurricanes in the history of the United States.

Many people in Florida were unaware that Hurricane Katrina was gradually strengthening from a tropical storm to a hurricane.  This caused many people to be unprepared for the damages. This is why it is so important to be prepared for any hurricane and not to underestimate its strength.

Whether your home is located in a place that is likely to flood or in a higher elevated ground, you should always pick up safety supplies now rather than waiting until the storm hits.

These supplies include:

1. A sufficient amount of water, in containers or bottles, to last up to seven days

2. Non- Perishable foods and canned foods to last up to seven days

3. A first aid kit including Band-Aids, medical cream, medical tape, etc.

4. Flash Lights, abundant for every member to be separated and still have enough light to see their surroundings

5. Extra batteries, in case of any battery-powered device stops working.

6. Toilet paper and other sanitary needs such as soap, shampoo, tissues etc.

7. Additional clothing, for every type of weather

8. Plastic bags, in order to preserve anything and resist as much water damage as possible

9. Battery powered radio, to stay in contact with the storm reports and what safety measures should be taken at the time

10. Secure all your windows, stay away from any glass windows or doors that can shatter or collapse due to heave winds and rain
