More and more courts are moving toward a 50/50 rotating time-sharing schedule with both parents which allows more hands-on parenting time for fathers. Many fathers are embracing this concept as they were hands-on fathers while the marriage was intact. There is no reason for any father to give up any time-sharing with their children just because the parents are divorcing. Since child support is partially calculated based on overnights, if a father is exercising 50% of overnights, it qualifies him for downward departure (reduction) in child support. In some cases, neither party pays child support.
