How Long Will It Take To Finish My Car Accident Case?
By Jabari Bennett, Esq.
Drivers, we understand that driving in the State of Florida requires your full attention and even then, due to the carelessness or recklessness of other drivers, you may be unfortunately injured behind the wheel.
In the event that happens, it is important to consult with an accident attorney about your rights after the accident. We also understand that the accident may be a serious interruption to your life and injuries may prevent you from working, prevent you from working to your fullest abilities, and potentially cause a struggle to pay bills.
Considering all of that, one of the first questions that we hear as accident attorneys is, “how long will it take to settle my case?”
It Depends On Several Factors:
An accident attorney will seek to resolve your claim in a reasonable amount of time, relative to how long the treatment period occurs and how severe the injuries are that are sustained
Every injury case is unique. This means it is difficult for an attorney to estimate how long a case may take to resolve. The more severe the injury and complex the accident is, the more time a claim will take; if the accident is minor and there are minimal damages, the case may take lesser time
The status of the person that caused the accident may also factor in, as an outstanding criminal case against the driver may delay the resolution from the insurance company
Insurance companies also play a large role in how long a claim takes to resolve. If the insurance company is cooperative and diligent in their investigation, it may aid in a claim being resolved in a timely fashion. If an insurance company is looking to draw out the investigation, make low ball offers or attempt to delay the handling process until an accident victim is forced to take a settlement for less than the claim is worth, this may severely delay the resolution of the claim and may require a lawsuit to be filed.
While there is no magic number for the completion of an accident claim, you can achieve better results if you are patient and allow your attorneys to work on your behalf. If you have any additional questions or if you have been involved in an accident, you can call our office 24 hours a day; don’t wait – the clock is ticking!
