Hurricane Ian recently touched down here in Florida and in its wake left damage throughout the state. Most people tend to think they only have hurricane damage if there are broken tiles or shingles from a roof found on the ground and/or leaking in the interior of a property. However, after a hurricane, damage is not always readily apparent to a property, especially to the roof. This is why as a property owner, after a hurricane has made landfall where you live, you should get an inspection done by a reputable roofing company.
Roofing companies are able to tell whether or not your property was damaged from the hurricane by performing a thorough inspection, including taking videos and photographs of the condition of your property. After the inspection, if there is hurricane damage found, you should immediately contact your insurance company to report the claim. Reporting the claim promptly to your insurance company once you have knowledge of the damage to your property is key and complies with the prompt notice requirement most insurance policies contain. An insurance company then has 90 days to investigate your claim and issue a coverage determination.
We here at Cohen Law Group can assist you, the property owner, with this process. Please feel free to give us a call at 407-478-4878.
