Michael, a Seminole County native, obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Central Florida and graduated Cum Laude. Michael went on to attend Law School at the Florida State University College of Law also graduating Cum Laude.
Michael pursued research and publication while in Law School – both as a teaching assistant for legal research coursework and later as a research assistant for the College of Law’s Research Center assisting in faculty academia. Michael’s own research and writing has been presented at colloquia and published several times, his published law review articles can be found in publications ranging from The Williamette Environmental Law Journal to The St. Thomas Law Review alongside research from scholars in the field.
Michael was employed by a prominent Florida insurance defense firm through Law School, gaining hands-on experience in insurance litigation early on, where he first developed a passion for trial work. Later, Michael worked for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs; his time in the Guardianship Office led to him receiving the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award from Florida State University.
After earning his law degree, Michael joined a large national insurance defense firm, where he represented various insurance carriers in complex litigation. Michael now utilizes his past experience representing insurance carriers to his client’s advantage at the Cohen Law Group. Michael’s experience as a defense attorney, in tandem with his background in research, works to assist him in achieving expedient results for clients while utilizing insights into carrier’s practices and litigation techniques.
When not in the office or the courtroom, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters, and of course cheering on the Florida State Seminoles.
Michael is Licensed in Florida, Missouri, Virginia, & Michigan.
